The Art of Teaching

2012 has brought me the opportunity to teach at Cal Poly Pomona with the Ethnic and Women's Studies Department. This is where much of my spirit was defined, as I graduated from the program in 2005. It is so wonderful to be back with the faculty I love and joining them in providing alternative learning spaces to not only increase students academic knowledge but to connect with their spirit and to question norms and standards that exist in academia and life in general.

I am teaching a community service learning course. This is a course in which students must dedicate 30 hours in the community and combine course work and class time to be reflective in the work they are doing in the community. The arts - or connecting with the left side of our brain - is a big part of their journey. My class brings together a diverse student body and diverse majors that are not used to tapping into their spirit and artistic part of the human experience. I am up for the challenge and truly blessed to be in this role.

Childrens jewelry, toys, and nursery window designs!

Over the past year I have been investing time in the most precious project in life, giving birth and raising my little song of the moon. My daughter is my newest inspiration and has truly pushed me to venture back into the artistic community. Since becoming a mother I have explored childrens custom window framing. I was inspired by my daughters Eastern window... I thought why not honor the rising of the sun each day. Above her window is a custom 3d, wooden, hand painted sunrise with two hummingbirds (also wood and custom painted) that hang above two ceramic flower vases. Examples of Early Work

These "peaces" are examples of some of my early work. Each of them has a home and wonderful owners that acknowledge their importance. Each "peace" comes with Sage in order to cleanse the energies from the rocks. Tlazo-Thank you to those who have their own Clara iLusion "peace."

The Beginning!

For many years I have been drawn to stones. As a child it began with a rock collection that I would give baths too! Now, rocks are the base of my artistic expressions. The jewelry I design is done so in a meditative state so as to hear what the rocks are guiding me to create. The stones each have healing properties that provide us with medicine and add to our greatness! I look forward to sharing more about my artistic expressions, artivism/activism, and the history and cultural lenses that influence my work.
